TO CELIA
By Ben Jonson
Drink to me only with thine eyes,
And I will pledge with mine;
Or leave a kiss but in the cup,
And I’ll not look for wine.
The thirst that from the soul doth rise
Doth ask a drink divine;
But might I of Jove’s nectar sup,
I would not change for thine.
I sent thee late a rosy wreath,
Not so much honouring thee
As giving it a hope, that there
It could not withered be.
But thou thereon didst only breathe,
And sent’st it back to me;
Since when it grows, and smells, I swear,
Not of itself, but thee.
UNTUK CELIA
Karya Ben Jonson
Sulanglah cinta dengan tatapmu,
dan kuikrarkan cinta dengan pandangku;
Atau tinggalkanlah kecupan di cawanmu,
dan minuman anggur takkan kuburu.
Rasa haus yang memuncak dari jiwa,
ingin dipuaskan minuman nirwana;
Tapi meski disuguhi arak dewata,
tiada kan kuteguk mengganti dinda.
Karangan mawar kukirimkan kepadamu,
bukan sekadar tuk memujamu,
di dalamnya tersimpan harapku,
mawar itu takkan pernah layu.
Cukup embusi ia dengan napasmu,
dan kirimkan kembali kepadaku;
Tatkala ia mekar mewangi, aku tahu,
bukan mawar, tapi dindalah itu.
SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY
By Lord Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
DIA ANGGUN JELITA
Karya Lord Byron
Dia anggun jelita, bagai malam
Bertabur bintang, tanpa mega;
Perpaduan indah terang dan kelam
Terlukis di paras dan matanya;
Lembut cahaya membalut rupa
Tiada dimiliki siang, diimpikan surga.
Tak lebih seberkas, tak kurang secercah,
Tanpa cela, elok sempurna
Rambut hitam bergelombang indah,
Tergerai lembut mencahayakan wajah;
Di sana pikiran tenteram manis ternyata,
Betapa murni mulia yang bersemayam dalam benaknya.
Oh pipi itu, dan alis itu,
Begitu lembut tenang, namun gigih,
Senyum memikat, rona berkilau,
Mengisah hidup luhur bestari,
Jiwa yang memancarkan damai sejati,
Hati yang penuh kasih murni!
